Labia reduction Frankfurt: Reduce discomfort and shame due to long labia!
The female intimate zone is a sensitive area and varies greatly from woman to woman. This can be seen, for example, in the labia minora, which in some women are completely covered by the labia majora and in others are very pronounced and protrude significantly or even hang down. Many women find the latter in particular unpleasant and disturbing. Some so much so that they avoid intimacy with their partner or refrain from wearing clothing such as bikinis because of the feeling of shame. It is also not uncommon for long labia to cause discomfort due to friction with clothing such as pants or pain when riding a bicycle.
With a surgical reduction, it is possible to optimize the size and shape of the labia minora according to your wishes, compensate for congenital asymmetries and thus help you to achieve a more positive body image and new self-confidence. As a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, Dr. Nichlos is the right person to talk to. Make an appointment now by telephone for a no-obligation consultation at our practice in Frankfurt!

Introduction
What is a labia reduction?
Labia reduction (labiaplasty) is a surgical procedure to reduce the labia minora or – in rare cases – the labia majora. The aim of labiaplasty is to improve a woman’s physical well-being and alleviate any discomfort caused by the labia majora.
What are the reasons for a labia reduction?
The labia minora can change visibly with age (e.g. during the menopause) or due to factors such as pregnancy, childbirth and weight fluctuations, becoming increasingly slack, starting to sag and eventually appearing longer. However, labia that are too large usually appear during puberty, when the labia begin to grow in the same way as the breasts.
Regardless of the cause, many women find it unaesthetic and feel uncomfortable with their intimate area if the labia minora protrude too far between the labia majora and/or hang down limply and therefore look for ways to correct this.
However, aesthetics is only one reason why women want labiaplasty surgery. Due to the labia being too large, they often also suffer from physical discomfort such as unpleasant chafing when wearing tight clothing and during sport, are unable to take part in certain sports such as horse riding or cycling or experience pain during intimate contact with their partner. Skin irritation and recurring inflammation can also occur.
Methods
What methods of labia reduction are available in plastic surgery?
Depending on the findings and your individual wishes, various methods are available for labiaplasty, which we would like to briefly introduce to you here.
Reduction of the labia minora
With this method, Dr. Nichlos removes the excess tissue below the clitoris with precise incisions. The incision is made in an arc from the lower base of the labia minora upwards, which gives a very attractive and natural result. In most cases, this simple labiaplasty is sufficient to alleviate discomfort and make you feel comfortable with your intimate area again.
Reduction of the labia minora and tightening of the clitoral hood
In some patients, the clitoral hood (clitoral hood) is too pronounced in addition to the labia minora, so that correction by removing the excess tissue is also desired here. Using a sophisticated cutting technique that requires a great deal of experience and dexterity, Dr. Nichlos removes the tissue so precisely that an aesthetic overall appearance is achieved at the end of the procedure and the sensitivity of the clitoris is fully preserved.
3D Reduction Labiaplasty
3D reduction labiaplasty is a new intimate surgery procedure to reduce the size of the labia minora. Basically, the inner labia are first reduced through precise incisions and the clitoral hood is tightened. This special method also involves moving the clitoris downwards. This is useful if the clitoris is visibly protruding below the clitoral hood. With the 3D Reduction Labiaplasty, Dr. Nichlos can correct this and create a harmonious intimate area. Here too, the sensitivity to touch is fully retained.

Procedure
Labia reduction Frankfurt: How does the procedure work?
Dr. Nichlos performs the routine procedure on an outpatient or short inpatient basis (with an overnight stay in the clinic) and either under local anaesthetic or with twilight sleep/general anaesthetic. You should allow about one hour for the operation itself.
After induction of anaesthesia and careful disinfection of the surgical area, the surgeon begins to remove the excess tissue from the labia with precise incisions. If desired, he can also perform a clitoral hood lift and/or move the clitoris a little further down for a harmonious overall appearance.
Finally, Dr. Nichlos stops the bleeding and sutures the wounds with self-dissolving stitches so that they do not need to be removed later. If the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, you can leave the clinic immediately afterwards. Please have someone else accompany you and drive you if necessary, as your ability to drive may be impaired by the anesthesia.

Aftercare
What happens after labiaplasty?
Take sufficient time to recover after labiaplasty so as not to impair the healing process. You can shower the very next day, but you should not use soap or shower gel in the genital area, only tap water. Sitz baths are also recommended. You can do this twice a day for three to five minutes each time for the first few days, preferably with a lukewarm camomile solution.
To support healing, you can apply a wound ointment to the affected areas. During this time, please wear sanitary towels, loose-fitting underwear and loose-fitting clothing that does not irritate your genital area. Refrain from sexual intercourse and sport, especially horse riding and cycling, for the following 6 weeks.
In order to monitor wound healing, a follow-up check is usually carried out in our practice in Frankfurt after two weeks and, if necessary, in the following months. We will discuss the details of the follow-up appointments with you on the day of the operation.
Risks
What are the risks associated with labiaplasty?
Labia reduction is considered a comparatively minor procedure in intimate surgery that is associated with few risks. General surgical risks such as post-operative bleeding, wound healing disorders or infections are rare if the procedure is carried out professionally under the strictest hygiene standards.
Following the operation, however, some patients may experience temporary slight swelling, redness, pain or loss of sensation, which will subside during the healing process. You can support this process by carefully cooling the area. Please also note our further information on aftercare.
In very rare cases, labiaplasty can also lead to permanent loss of sensation or sensitivity. However, this risk can be significantly reduced by choosing a qualified surgeon such as Dr. Nichlos, who, as a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, has years of experience in intimate surgery.
