Facelift
Fat deposits are particularly annoying where they are directly visible. A typical case of this is the double chin, where fat deposits form under the chin area due to weight gain, the natural ageing process or genetic factors. These fat pads make the face appear rounder, the contours blur and can therefore change the facial profile in an unflattering way. In addition, they often prove to be extremely stubborn and hardly respond to diets or exercise.
Fortunately, you no longer have to put up with a double chin, as there are a number of treatment options available, such asliposuction, the so-called “fat-away injection” or a neck lift. The best way to find out which treatment is right for you is to arrange a personal consultation with Dr. Nichlos.
A double chin is a deformation below the chin caused by fat deposits or sagging tissue. In many cases, this is a side effect of being overweight. Excess fat pads appear all over the body, including on the chin.
Unfortunately, the double chin often remains after weight loss and even if the fat deposits dissolve, excess skin often remains due to prolonged stretching and does not completely disappear. The same happens with the natural ageing process of the skin, which unfortunately also causes it to sag on the chin.
Even people of normal weight are not immune to a double chin. In these cases, however, the fat deposits are usually genetic. In principle, a double chin can occur in women and men at any age and can vary in severity.

Dr. Emmanouil Nichlos has specialized in double chin removal treatments for over 17 years and has extensive experience in the field of aesthetic procedures for the chin and neck region.
Using individually tailored procedures, Dr. Nichlos achieves defined contours and a harmonious facial profile. During the healing phase, patients who have recently undergone surgery receive personalized care, and Dr. Nichlos is available at any time, even around the clock, if needed.
A double chin is often caused by fat deposits, sagging tissue or a combination of both. The reasons for this can be very different: Weight gain, the natural ageing process or even a genetic predisposition. Many sufferers find the extra fullness under the chin disturbing, as it makes the profile appear softer and the contours less clearly recognizable. Even with a normal body weight or after weight loss, the double chin can persist, as fat deposits or excess skin do not always disappear completely. In such cases, a double chin removal can help to make the chin and neck region appear more defined again and give a more harmonious facial profile.
Modern cosmetic surgery offers various options for removing an annoying double chin and optimizing the chin area according to your wishes. These differ in their effect and sustainability and have specific advantages.
If the double chin is only to be concealed, it is possible to inject hyaluronic acid into the chin in a targeted manner. This can give the sagging skin areas more elasticity and volume again. However, this method does not reduce fatty tissue, but only contours the chin line more clearly. The hyaluronic acid treatment is suitable for slightly sagging skin without a lot of fat.
Injection lipolysis is still relatively new. It is suitable for dissolving fat deposits under the chin in a targeted manner. This usually requires 2-4 sessions in our practice in Frankfurt, during which the fat is gradually removed. This gentle method is suitable for removing small to medium-sized fat deposits under the chin and can be combined with hyaluronic acid injections if required.
The most common treatment option is liposuction. In this procedure, the fatty tissue is first loosened and then suctioned out. Fat cells cannot grow back, so the result of this method (assuming a stable weight) is permanent. Liposuction is therefore also suitable for removing a pronounced double chin.
Endolift® is a minimally invasive procedure that uses laser technology to act on both the fat cells and the skin. The special wavelength of the laser guided under the skin liquefies small fat deposits and tightens the skin at the same time and is therefore very suitable for the effective treatment of a double chin.
A classic neck lift (also known as a neck lift) is a surgical procedure in which a large amount of excess skin is removed from the neck and the muscles are tightened. If necessary, the skin tightening is combined with liposuction to achieve the desired result.
The facelift aims to achieve a comprehensive visual rejuvenation of the face and neck and usually consists of a combination of skin tightening and muscle tightening and, if necessary, liposuction in various areas of the face and neck.
In principle, it is also possible to combine different techniques to achieve the desired result. Which method is most suitable for you depends on the cause, type and severity of your double chin, your skin condition and your individual wishes. Dr. Nichlos will be happy to advise you on this in a personal consultation at his practice in Frankfurt.
Given the variety of options for removing a double chin, a preliminary examination and consultation with Dr. Nichlos is very important. The first step is to determine what exactly is bothering you: excess fat, sagging skin, a blurred contour or the overall appearance. The treatment method that is suitable for you depends on this and the cause and severity of the double chin.
Dr. Nichlos will explain what results you can expect from the treatment and may show you before and after photos of similar treatments to better illustrate them.
Secondly, it must be checked whether the requirements for this treatment are met. You should be in a generally good state of health and not suffer from any acute infections or skin diseases. Please inform us of any chronic illnesses and medication that you take regularly. It may be necessary to temporarily stop taking blood thinners, for example (in consultation).
The individual procedures are very different and do not always require a hospital stay or general anesthesia. Dr. Nichlos will provide you with comprehensive information in the prior information and consultation meeting. Here you will learn everything about the costs, the procedure, the anesthesia, the duration, the expected downtime, when you will be able to return to normal life, when the result can be seen and how long it usually lasts.
After treatment in the chin region, you should take it easy for the first few days and avoid physical exertion such as sport. You can positively influence the healing process by cooling the chin, but be careful and follow Dr. Nichlos’ instructions. Be careful not to apply pressure to the chin and neck area. Please follow Dr. Nichlos’ specific aftercare tips to support healing and results.
The risks can vary depending on the type of treatment and range from slight redness, swelling and bruising with minimally invasive methods to hardening and numbness and sensitivity disorders after surgical procedures. Wound healing disorders can also theoretically occur, but are generally very rare.
Of course, Dr. Nichlos will inform you in detail in advance about the possible risks and complications of the selected treatment method. As a general rule, the risks can be minimized if the procedure is carried out professionally by a specialist with expertise and many years of experience like Dr. Nichlos and if strict hygiene and safety standards are observed.
The cost of removing a double chin depends primarily on the treatment method chosen and the extent of the procedure. At our practice in Frankfurt, we offer both minimally invasive procedures and surgical methods.
Prices generally start at:
Which method is best suited for you depends, among other things, on whether you primarily have fat deposits, sagging skin, or a combination of both. Dr. Nichlos will analyze your chin and neck area during a personal consultation and then create a customized treatment and cost plan.
The cost of a double chin treatment consists of several medical services. These typically include:
For surgical procedures such as liposuction, additional anesthesia and clinic fees apply, as the procedure is performed in a specialized clinic.
Depending on the scope of the treatment, financing in monthly installments is also available for double chin correction.
Financing is provided through an external financing partner and can be individually tailored to your financial situation. This allows you to conveniently pay for the procedure in monthly installments.
We would be happy to inform you about the requirements and the financing process during a personal consultation.
Various procedures are available to remove a double chin. These include minimally invasive methods such as injection lipolysis (“fat-away injection”) or treatment with the Endolift® laser. For more pronounced findings, liposuction, a neck lift or even a facelift can be considered. Which method is most suitable depends on the individual findings, the condition of the skin and your personal goals.
Treatment is always advisable if stubborn fat deposits have formed under the chin or the skin is visibly sagging. A medical procedure can help to improve the facial profile and define the contours, especially if diet and exercise do not bring about any change or if the double chin persists despite a normal weight.
Yes, at least to a certain extent. Watch your weight and reduce excess weight with a healthy diet and sufficient exercise. Prevent signs of ageing with good skin care and sun protection. These tips reduce the risk of a double chin, but cannot always prevent it if you have a genetic predisposition. In these cases, the only option is usually medical removal of the double chin.
The fat-away injection dissolves smaller fat deposits through targeted injections and works gradually – ideal for mild to moderate findings. Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which fat cells are permanently removed. It is particularly suitable for severe excess fat and offers a long-term stable result, provided the body weight remains constant.
No, the treatment is usually carried out under local anesthesia so that there is hardly any pain. Depending on the procedure, sometimes no anesthesia is required at all (e.g. cryolipolysis) or local anesthesia using an anesthetic cream is sufficient (e.g. hyaluronic acid injections). In some cases, we perform the treatment in twilight sleep or under general anesthesia (e.g. facelift). Wound pain can occur after surgical procedures, but this can be easily treated with standard painkillers.
It depends on the method. Hyaluronic acid injections, fat-away injections and cryolipolysis leave no visible scars on the chin/face, while thread lifts and liposuction only leave small puncture marks or tiny incisions that usually heal well and are no longer visible later. With a neck lift or a facelift with neck lift, however, scars remain, but these are usually in the most inconspicuous places possible.
This depends on the cause and the treatment method. With liposuction, the fat cells are permanently removed and cannot form again. However, if you gain weight again, the remaining fat cells can enlarge again, including under the chin. The skin under the chin can also become flabbier with age and cause a “new” double chin to develop. However, this risk is significantly lower after treatment than without treatment.
Yes, it often makes sense to combine several methods in order to achieve a harmonious overall appearance. For example, liposuction can be supplemented with skin tightening or a facelift. A hyaluronic acid treatment to define the chin line is also often a good addition. Dr. Nichlos will put together an individual treatment strategy during the consultation.
The healing time depends on the method chosen. With minimally invasive treatments such as fat removal injections, you will usually be fit for social life again after a few days. After liposuction or a surgical procedure such as a neck lift, you should expect a downtime of around a week. Swelling and slight bruising may remain visible for a little longer in individual cases.
As with any medical procedure, there are certain risks involved. These include temporary swelling, redness or minor bruising. In rare cases, hardening, sensitivity disorders or wound healing problems may occur. Dr. Nichlos will inform you in detail about all possible risks in advance and follow you closely during aftercare.
