What are Russian Lips?
As the name suggests, this method has its roots in Russia. There, a particularly accentuated lip contour with a heart-shaped cupid’s bow has always been considered the ideal of beauty. Unfortunately, not every woman is naturally blessed with this lip shape. In order to achieve this desired result, the classic lip injections have been slightly modified.
The key difference between the trendy Russian Lips technique and classic lip injections is the structure. The primary aim here is not to increase volume (lip augmentation), but to shape the lips in a particular way. We inject the hyaluronic acid in fine lines from the base to the edge of the lips. This gently lifts and supports the red of the lips and creates the desired heart shape without the lip appearing heavy or losing its profile.

Russian Lips Frankfurt: Who is the treatment suitable for?
Russian lips or doll lips are basically suitable for all women who are dissatisfied with the shape of their lips and want a sensual curve (lip heart) in the center of their lips. Ideally, the lips should not be too narrow by nature and the skin structure should not be too thin.
For a perfect result, it is ideal if no lip augmentation has been performed beforehand or if there is no residue from a previous injection. If this is the case, it makes sense for Dr. Nichlos to perform a hylase beforehand and dissolve the remaining hyaluronic acid.

Compared to other lip treatments, the Russian Lips technique offers several advantages:

What should I look out for before the Russian Lips treatment?
The prerequisite for treatment with the Russian Lips technique is that there are no injuries, acute inflammations or infections (e.g. cold sores) in the lip/face area. If you suffer from other, possibly chronic illnesses, please inform Dr. Nichlos of this during the preliminary consultation. Please also inform us about any medication you are taking. It may be necessary (e.g. in the case of blood-thinning medication) to temporarily discontinue this after consulting a doctor.
Important: Unfortunately, treatment with the Russian Lips method is not possible during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The same applies if you have a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or any of the ingredients it contains.
How does the treatment for Russian Lips in Frankfurt work?
Before the treatment, you will come to our practice in Frankfurt for a personal consultation. Here, Dr. Nichlos will first take a look at your lips and find out more about your wishes. This enables him to assess whether these can be realized with the Russian Lips technique.
The treatment itself is carried out by the specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery on an outpatient basis. As soon as you have relaxed in the treatment chair, Dr. Nichlos applies an anaesthetic to your lips in the form of a fast-acting anaesthetic cream. As soon as the anesthetic takes effect, the injection begins. Using a syringe with very fine needles, he injects the precisely dosed amount of hyaluronic acid vertically into the lips from the base to the edge, with particular emphasis on the center. This gives the lips the desired heart shape and emphasizes the contours.
Immediately after the injection, we carefully cool your lips to prevent bruising and swelling. The entire treatment takes no longer than 20 to 30 minutes, so it can easily be integrated into your lunch break.
What happens after the treatment?
You can leave our practice in Frankfurt after your lip injections. You do not need to plan any long downtime and can theoretically go straight back to work or go about your daily business. However, we recommend that you continue to cool your lips. When cooling, make sure that there is always a cloth between the ice or cold pack and your skin.
If possible, allow yourself 1-2 days of physical rest afterwards and avoid sport and other strenuous activities for the next few days. Protect the area around the lips from direct sunlight, UV rays (solarium) and excessive heat (sauna).
Important: Please avoid massaging your lips after the treatment, as this can cause the hyaluronic acid to spread unevenly and affect the result.
What are the risks and side effects of the Russian Lips method?
The Russian Lips technique requires precise knowledge of the anatomy and a great deal of dexterity in order to accurately dose the hyaluronic acid and target the injections. Thanks to his expertise and years of experience, Dr. Nichlos is known for the professional execution of the method. As a result, the risks are low and there are only a few, mostly harmless side effects.
Here, the normal reactions of the skin to the punctures should be mentioned above all, which appear in the form of redness or slight swelling at the injection sites. However, these will subside within a short time, especially if you carefully cool the area.

The aim is to give the lips a natural elegance through gentle lip sculpting and to avoid the dreaded “duck face” or duckbill effect.
- Is the Russian Lips treatment painful?
Dr. Nichlos uses very fine needles for injections in the Russian Lips technique. However, as the lips are very sensitive, the treatment area around the mouth is numbed in advance with a locally effective anaesthetic cream. Our patients describe the treatment as painless and feel more of a prickling or pressure sensation, which is, however, easy to tolerate.
- Can you see a result immediately?
Yes, the results of the Russian Lips treatment are immediately visible. Both the changed shape and the clear contour of the Russian Lips are clearly visible. However, as there may be slight swelling at the injection sites, this is not yet the final result.
The final result can only be assessed once all swelling and minor bruising have subsided. In our experience, this is usually the case after 5-10 days.
- Can the facelift be combined with other procedures?
In fact, this is often useful in order to achieve a harmonious overall result. The combination with an eyebrow or eyelid lift and/or a neck lift is particularly suitable. - Can the result be resolved again?
Yes, this is the advantage over permanent fillers: the result achieved with hyaluronic acid can be completely reversed if necessary. If you do not want to wait until the body breaks down the injected hyaluronic acid and the effect wears off by itself, the active ingredient can be dissolved by injecting the enzyme hyaluronidase. With its help, for example, previous overcorrections can be dissolved or asymmetries corrected. The dissolving effect usually occurs within 24-72 hours.
