What are the reasons for nipple correction?

Nipple Reduction
In this procedure, Dr. Nichlos visually reduces the size of the nipple by removing excess tissue. This procedure can be performed, for example, as part of a breast lift.
Areola Reduction
To reduce the size of areolas that are considered too large, we remove a ring-shaped strip of skin around the areolas to reduce their diameter. Preparing for Nipple Correction Surgery

The Process of Nipple Correction
On the day of your appointment, please arrive at the Berger Clinic on an empty stomach. After a brief preparation, you will receive a local anesthetic or a short-acting general anesthetic. General anesthesia is usually not necessary. However, Dr. Nichlos will discuss the details with you during your preliminary consultation.
The rest of the procedure varies depending on the treatment goal of the nipple correction. The differences between the various surgical techniques lie in the incision patterns. For nipple reduction, for example, a wedge-shaped incision is made in the center of the nipple, while for areola correction, Dr. Nichlos makes a circular incision around the areola. He then removes the excess tissue and carefully sutures the incision.
A special consideration is the correction of inverted nipples. In this case, the specialist must sever the tissue strands that pull the nipple inward. Only then will the nipple protrude outward. To ensure it remains in its new position, he sutures the wound using a special technique.
After the procedure, we protect the treated area with a special dressing. You can go home immediately, but it is essential that you follow our instructions for aftercare and recovery.
Postoperative Care Following Nipple Correction Surgery
As with all breast surgery procedures, proper aftercare is extremely important for nipple correction as well. We will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions after the surgery. These include:
- keeping the surgical site clean and dry for a few days
- taking it easy physically during the first few days after the procedure
- refraining from bathing, swimming, and using the sauna for 3 to 4 weeks
- refrain from exercising for 1 to 2 weeks

Are there any risks or side effects associated with nipple correction?

- What are inverted nipples?
Inverted nipples are a breast malformation characterized by nipples that are pulled inward. While they pose no medical risk, they often present an aesthetic concern for those affected. The cause is usually shortened strands of connective tissue or milk ducts. These cause the nipples to be pulled inward rather than protruding outward. Inverted nipples are harmless and genetically determined. Only in rare cases can they be a sign of a medical condition. The possibility of an underlying condition must always be considered if the nipple begins to retract inward over time.
- How long after nipple correction surgery should I avoid exercising?
That depends entirely on the extent of the nipple correction and the type of exercise. As a general rule, Dr. Nichlos advises against exercising for at least 1 to 2 weeks—or, better yet, 3 to 4 weeks—after nipple correction surgery. You will receive specific recommendations after the surgery.
- Will there be any scars left after nipple correction surgery?
Every incision leaves a scar. Depending on the type of nipple correction and the incision technique used, the scar may vary in appearance. However, we always take care to place the incisions in areas where they are as inconspicuous as possible, so that the scars are barely visible later on. - Does nipple correction affect the ability to breastfeed?
It depends. In the case of a simple nipple reduction or areola correction, the ability to breastfeed is usually not affected. However, in rare cases, an inverted nipple correction can impair the ability to breastfeed if, for example, the milk ducts are severed during the surgery. For this reason, we recommend waiting to undergo such a procedure until you have completed your family planning.
- Does the surgery change the sensitivity of the nipples?
After nipple surgery, nipple sensitivity may change temporarily. They may become either more sensitive or less sensitive. In most cases, however, this change in sensitivity is only temporary and returns to normal over the following weeks. It is possible for the changes to be permanent, but this is rarely the case.
- How long does a nipple correction take?
