Eyelid lift

Before the eyelid lift, you can discuss with Dr. Nichlos in a relaxed atmosphere what exactly bothers you about your eye area and what results you would like to achieve with the eyelid lift. The specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery will advise you whether the desired changes can be achieved with a lift of the upper or lower eyelid, or whether a combination of both might be the better choice for you.

During the consultation, Dr. Nichlos can also show you before and after pictures of previously successful corrections so that you can get a better idea of the surgical options and, of course, the surgeon’s experience.

It is important that you know the exact treatment procedure and what you need to pay attention to before and after. Dr. Nichlos will therefore explain the exact procedure to you and inform you about possible risks and complications. An ophthalmological examination may be necessary before the eyelid correction, but we will clarify this with you during your consultation.

Please also inform us at the appointment about any existing medical conditions and medications you take regularly. It may be necessary to temporarily discontinue these (e.g., those with blood-thinning effects) in consultation with Dr. Nichlos.

Good to know: The cost of eyelid correction depends on individual factors and therefore cannot be estimated in general terms. However, after the consultation, we will provide you with a cost estimate that clearly lists all costs.

Eyelid lifting is usually performed on an outpatient basis at the Berger Clinic in Frankfurt under local anesthesia. Depending on the type of eyelid lift, Dr. Nichlos makes fine incisions on the upper or lower eyelid. The incisions follow the natural anatomical folds so that the fine scars are not visible later and therefore do not reveal that an eyelid lift has been performed.

Once the incisions have been made, the specialist carefully separates the epidermis from the subcutaneous tissue and muscles and removes the excess skin. If necessary, he also removes excess fatty tissue or redistributes it as part of the eyelid lift in Frankfurt. At the end of the procedure, the wound is sutured with a very thin thread.

You should allow approximately 1 to 1.5 hours for eyelid lifting in Frankfurt.

Immediately after eyelid surgery, you can gently cool the area around your eyes (using a cooling pad or cooling glasses) to help reduce swelling more quickly. Avoid straining, rubbing, or pressing on your eyes. If possible, refrain from wearing eye makeup for the first 10 to 14 days after the operation to prevent fine particles from getting into the still-fresh wound. You should also avoid using creams and ointments for the first two weeks after your eyelid correction.

Keep your head elevated as much as possible during the first few days and allow yourself plenty of rest. Avoid sports and other physical exertion for at least 2 weeks and protect your eyes well from UV radiation (direct sunlight, solarium) during this time. When outdoors, it is best to wear good sunglasses with high UV protection.

An eyelid lift performed by an experienced plastic and aesthetic surgeon is generally considered a low-risk procedure. However, as with any surgery, there is a general risk of redness, swelling, bleeding, wound healing disorders, and infections, as well as temporary numbness in the surgical area.

In addition, in rare cases, eyelid correction can lead to dry eyes, a feeling of tightness or tension when blinking, and difficulty closing the eyelids. These side effects are also usually temporary and subside as healing progresses.

Very rarely, complications such as unwanted scarring, excessive tightening of the eyelid skin (overcorrection), or overstimulation of the tear ducts may occur after eyelid surgery, which can lead to frequent tearing or increased dryness of the eyes. However, the risk of these complications can be minimized by choosing an experienced surgeon such as Dr. Nichlos and following the post-operative instructions.
