In theory, any doctor can call themselves a “cosmetic surgeon,” even without the appropriate training. Dr. Nichlos is a board-certified specialist in Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery. This title may only be held by those who have completed a six-year specialist training program after medical school.
What Is Plastic Surgery?
Plastic surgery encompasses four areas: aesthetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, and burn surgery. During the six-year specialist training program, a doctor must complete all four areas, performing hundreds of procedures under the supervision of an experienced specialist. What Is Cosmetic Surgery?
Cosmetic surgery is neither an independent medical specialty nor a recognized professional qualification in Germany. The problem is that virtually any doctor can use this title, regardless of whether they are a dermatologist, gynecologist, surgeon, or general practitioner. No additional training is required.
